ScalaHosting Opens New Data Center in New York
ScalaHosting has made good on its promise to expand its network of server locations across the US with the grand opening of its Hawthorne data center in New York State. It’s partnered with TierPoint to get the site up and running, and we decided to find out what this means for you and what you can expect from this shiny new addition to its service.
Who is TierPoint?
TierPoint is a leading provider of data center space and will be managing the site. It’s an experienced player in the industry and is able to provide top-notch security for the Scala server racks.
Data Center Features
The site covers an impressive 160,000 sq. feet and is connected to multiple points of presence (POPs) all along the east coast, meaning faster connection speeds for you. All clients will have access to redundant IP bandwidth with 10Gb connectivity, further enhancing the speed.
TierPoint has gone all out with both physical and logical security features here too. The site itself is monitored 24/7 by CCTV and can only be accessed via biometric keycards, while servers are protected behind several layers of multi-factor authentication. It’s a veritable Fort Knox for your data.
What’s more, the data center undergoes regular external security audits and is certified in four top industry standards; SSAE 18 SOC 2 Type II, PCI-DSS, GLBA, and HIPAA. Compliance certifications like this are an absolute must-have for any hosting provider these days, and it’s great to see so many proudly displayed here.
Other features include an ambitious promise for 100% uptime, backup diesel generators in the event of a power outage and multiple diverse fiber feeds.
What This Means for Customers
Current Scala Users should see an increase in their website loading speeds. The more data centers a host operates from, the greater its efficiencies will be. Plus, this new site will enable the platform to take on ever-larger businesses. As it increases its rack space, it’ll be able to scale up current customers as their website needs grow, as well as attract larger organizations with a winning combination of speed and security.
Following data center openings in Dallas, Texas, and Sofia in Bulgaria, the New York site now gives Scala a presence in three well placed geographical positions. This might not put Scala up there with the biggest platforms quite yet, but if future expansion plans continue on schedule we should be hearing a lot more from this customer-focused provider very soon.
